2016 Commission Work Program is published

27 October 2015

The European Commission adopted its work program for 2016 (CWP 2016). Every year at the end of October the European Commission discloses to the other Institutions, to stakeholders and to the European citizens what are their legislative and non-legislative plans for the following year.

As expected, the CWP2016 focuses on jobs and growth that are the top priorities of the Juncker Commission 2014-2019. The Commission communication’s title is “No time for business as usual” and it outlines initiatives on the core policies the Commission is working on to fulfill the objectives linked to the 10 Priorities.

The new initiatives which the Commission will deliver in 2016 include:

- Initiatives on Better Migration Management, and proposals on Border Management

- Implementation of the Digital Single Market, Follow-up to the Single Market Strategy, a Space Strategy for Europe, and a European Defence Action Plan

- A Circular Economy, Next Steps for a Sustainable European Future, and legislation to implement the Energy Union

- A New Skills Agenda for Europe, a New Start for Working Parents, and a Pillar of Social Rights as part of a deepening of Economic and Monetary Union

- A Corporate Tax package and an Action Plan on VAT

In order to have a better overview of the details we will have to wait that the Annexes to the CWP 2016 are published…so stay tuned!
