New Circular Economy package published

2 December 2015

The European Commission published the new Circular Economy package today!

The new European Commission communication “Closing the loop - An EU action plan for the Circular Economy” sets the scene for the transition to a sustainable economy, listing the different measures (legislative and non-legislative) envisaged.

EurEau particularly welcomes the inclusion of water in the new plans for Europe’s sustainable economic future.

The new circular economy package proposal recognises how water services will contribute to a more sustainable European economy. We support the recovery of nutrients through the revision of the Fertiliser Regulation and the measures regarding water reuse.

EurEau President Bruno Tisserand said that “The Commission has now recognised the crucial contribution that the water sector can play in revitalising the European economy. Since water is the most important shared resource across all supply chains, and a lot of resources can be recovered from wastewater, it is the natural starting point for the circular revolution.”
