Water matters in Bxl this week

19 January 2016

Tomorrow and on Thursday I will attend two very interesting meetings on water policy that set the pace for our work in 2016.

Tomorrow the second seminar on “materials and products in contact with drinking water” will be co-organised by EurEau, the Copper Institute, Plastics Europe and AquaEuropa in order to pursue the initiative started (once more) by industry in May 2015 on the implementation of art.10 of the DWD. There is a momentum for the review of the DWD and art.10 is an area that requires action so that citizens will continue to enjoy high quality tap water also in the future.

On Thursday I will attend the seminar organised by the European Commission and the Dutch Presidency on “Drinking Water protection paramount- Best practices and challenges” where one of our experts, Dr Carsten Schmidt, will deliver a presentation on “Risk management from catchment to tap: EurEau’s views on costs, regulatory framework and parties to be involved”. It will be interesting to hear how the DWD and the WFD can be better linked and how the ideas expressed in this seminar will inform the review process of the two directives.

A lot of work ahead in 2016!
