Reaction - Commission report on the implementation of the UWWTD
The 10th Commission Report on the implementation of the Urban Waste Treatment Directive (91/271/EEC)” has been adopted by the European Commission today.
We acknowledge the publication of the report. The UWWTD is a cornerstone of the protection of the environment in Europe. The current directive didn’t reach full compliance today for many reasons, one of which is a lack of investment. We need to learn from the challenges identified in the UWWTD evaluation. A revised UWWTD must allow us to answer the new challenges and to reach full compliance with the current directive in a sustainable way.
